This Ain't the Summer of Love
It’s the middle of the year! Somehow. In lieu of talking about the upcoming Kickstarter (July 14!) since I’m booked on a bunch of podcasts to do just that, I’m gonna give you all a quick rundown of my fave music from this year to date. Lotta good titles to pick from. This is not a complete list – I’ve liked lots of stuff this year so far! – but I don’t want to overwhelm the reader. I included Bandcamp links where I could, Spotify if it isn't available there.
Also: follow my Kickstarter! We go live in two weeks and I’m not nervous at all!

NOW SPINNING
Slayyyter – Wor$t Girl in America (Columbia)
World class white trash electro thrash. Pop album of the year so far.
Frozen Soul – No Place of Warmth (Century Media)
Hell froze over, and instead of fleeing to Cancun like their senator, these Texans made killer death metal instead.
Genghis Tron – Signal Fire (Relapse)
Horse Lords – Demand to be Taken to Heaven Alive! (RVNG Intl.)
Smashing a bunch of instruments together and saying “Now kiss” (complimentary).
Converge – Love is Not Enough (Epitaph):
Picking up pennies from heaven.
Carpenter Brut – Leather Temple (No Quarter)
Cryptic Shift: Overspace & Supertime (Metal Blade)
Blood Incantation show remarkable restraint. This is what happens when they don’t.
Hoaxed – Death Knocks (Relapse)
Dimmu Borgir – Grand Serpent Rising (Nuclear Blast)
Look, all I want from these guys is for them to make me feel like I’m in Hellraiser II: Hellbound when the main characters emerge from the labyrinth and witness the Leviathan.
Spirit Adrift – Infinite Illumination (20 Buck Spin)
Going out in style – crushing their enemies, seeing them driven before them, and hearing the lamentations of the women.
Zutomayo – Keisudo (Universal)
I don’t know if it’s worse that I’m listening to music by (probably) Japanese robots or that it’s good.
Yoasabi – THE BOOK for, (Sony)
See above.
Hallas – Panorama (Äventyr)
There’s a reason Blood Incantation tapped the main dude from this band to play keyboards for them: he’s also a giant dork.
Earth Tongue – Dungeon Vision (In the Red)
Castle Rat are gonna need to defend their walls from this duo.
Haute & Freddy – Big Disgrace (Runaway Carnie)
Theater kid power level over 9000.
Ladytron – Paradises (Nettwerk)
Definitely better than Tron: Ares.
Slift – Fantasia (Sub Pop)
Exodus – Goliath (Napalm)
40 years after their debut these thrash elders release what might legit be the best album of their career.
Poison Ruin – Hymns from the Hills (Relapse)
I liked them when they were lo-fi dungeon punk, I like ‘em more now that they hired Arthur Rizk to make them listenable.
Boards of Canada – Inferno (Warp)
Soundtrack for the ongoing apocalypse. Feel-good hit of the summer.
